About This Program

Approximate length 2:00

This program features two pieces for string quartet by Mendelssohn and Dvořák alongside works by Brazilian master Heitor Villa-Lobos and Argentinian composer Osvaldo Golijov. Golijov’s Mariel for Cello and Marimba, written in remembrance of a close friend of the composer who loved the music of Brazil, is framed by Villa-Lobos’ own melding of Brazilian folk music and the European classical tradition in his Bachianas brasileiras No. 6 for Flute and Bassoon and Assobio a Jato (The Jet Whistle) for Flute and Cello.
