He crawls out of bed to investigate and our story begins.

Celebrated Minnesota-based playwright Harrison David Rivers has written A Nighttime Story to weave through the dynamic music of composer Jessie Montgomery and create a memorable 50-minute concert experience. Four works by Montgomery (Banner, Strum, Records from a Vanishing City and Source Code), are all grounded in the exploration of identity. Drawing inspiration from this, Rivers’ young character in A Nighttime Story hears the history of his family from his Grandmother one special night under the old family tree. This touching story will be brought to life on stage by the exceptionally talented actor H. Adam Harris.

Harrison David Rivers is the recipient of McKnight and Many Voices Jerome Fellowships, a Van Lier Fellowship, an Emerging Artist of Color Fellowship and New York Stage & Film’s Founders’ Award. He has recently had four works produced in the Twin Cities by History Theatre, Theater Latté Da, The Playwrights’ Center and Penumbra Theatre. In February 2018, the Star Tribune called Rivers “the busiest Minnesotan in show business.”

H. Adam Harris is an equally busy Minneapolis based actor, director, teaching artist and cultural equity consultant. He frequents the stage at the Children’s Theatre Company (most recently appearing as the Lorax in Dr. Seuss’s The Lorax), the Guthrie Theater and Penumbra Theatre. Harris routinely works at the intersection of theatre, education, social justice and community engagement.
