The SPCO eagerly welcomes back Artistic Partner and clarinetist Martin Fröst for a program that puts his dazzling musicianship on prominent display. He is joined by four virtuoso SPCO musicians in a performance of one of Brahms’ final compositions, his Clarinet Quintet. Fröst then performs Copland’s jazz-inspired Clarinet Concerto, originally commissioned by the renowned Benny Goodman, whose performances of the piece in the 1950s secured the concerto a prominent place in the standard clarinet repertoire. Also featured on the program, Göran Fröst arranged Brahms’ popular Hungarian Dances for his brother Martin to play as clarinet soloist with orchestra.
