About This Program

Approximate length 2:00

This luminous collaboration between Atlanta-based duo vocalist/composer Hanna Benn (Son Lux, Boots) and percussionist/composer/producer Deantoni Parks (John Cale, Sade, T Bone Burnett, Flying Lotus) delivers a pan-global, posthumanist sound – a combination of ethereal vocal textures with electronic flourishes, anchored by a percussion setup that is evenly split between analog and digital. A “sanctuary of sound” (Pitchfork), Procession explores the motion of ceremonial music in the form of a song cycle with new arrangements by Benn incorporating SPCO string quintet.

“A unified army of voices seem to beam down from heaven in service of Benn’s compelling vision.” – Stereogum

“A crash course on modern African-American music, hinting at different eras and genres (blues, house, hip-hop, footwork) by use of speed and musical association.” – Pitchfork on the music of Deantoni Parks
