About This Program

Patricia Kopatchinskaja reveals yet another layer of her artistry with this program in which she appears both as violin soloist and vocalist. In Schoenberg’s landmark melodrama, Pierrot Lunaire, Kopatchinskaja takes on the sprechstimme (literally “speech-voice”) role, bringing her unique imagination and sense of drama to the text and its interplay with the instrumental ensemble. With the Takemitsu and Eisler works, she introduces our audiences to two coloristic works that further bring out the phantasmagorical elements of Pierrot Lunaire. In Mozart’s most operatic of violin concertos, Kopatchinskaja lends her creative stamp to an SPCO favorite.
