About This Program

Approximate length 1:00

The beautifully constructed dance worlds of Seattle-based choreographer Kate Wallich meld with the gloriously ornate theatrical music of Perfume Genius to create the evening-length The Sun Still Burns Here. This radical integration of dance and live music features virtuosic performers burning through a postmodern swirl of classical and contemporary movement. The performance delves into what the artists describe as “a spiritual unraveling of romantic decay,” which will “undeniably lure you and immerse you somewhere far from the workaday world” (Seattle Times).

"[Wallich's work is] particularly hypnotic ... has the power of a cryptic ritual." –The Seattle Times

“Mike Hadreas, the artist better known as Perfume Genius, has always been a physically expressive performer, and he’s made dance a crucial part of his generally stunning live shows and videos. And now he’s about to make it a focus.” –Stereogum

Tickets and more information

This all-abilities movement class offers a fun and inclusive approach to dancing. Created by Kate Wallich in 2010, Dance Church® is a communal space for people who want to move their bodies. Classes are hosted regularly in Los Angeles, Seattle, Portland, and New York, and have popped up in cities worldwide. Get lost dancing and sweat (a lot) together—it’s the dance party you wish you had last night.

During the 90-minute class, participants are guided through a series of movement cues accompanied by a curated playlist of multi-genre pop music. The program is designed for people of all shapes and sizes, levels, abilities, backgrounds, and identities. No previous training is required but open-mindedness is a prerequisite.
