Celebrate Thanksgiving weekend with works by prominent American composers of the last 75 years. The Suite from Aaron Copland’s Appalachian Spring, in its original scoring for 13 instruments, is a staple of the SPCO’s repertoire and has been described as a quintessential piece of American music. Copland’s masterpiece is set alongside works by Kevin Puts, George Gershwin, John Corigliano, and William Bolcom, whose Commedia was a 1972 SPCO commission that the orchestra subsequently performed on a US State Department-sponsored tour of the Soviet Union in 1975.
