A seasoned actor, percussionist, spoken word artist, choreographer, and teaching artist, Ahanti Young is a company member of Penumbra Theatre, whose most recent credits include: Marcus Or The Secret Of Sweet (Guthrie Theater), Aklowned Sowell (Pillsbury House Theater), Brother Size (Guthrie Theater), Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom (Guthrie Theater), Two Trains Running (Penumbra Theatre), Zooman and the Sign (Penumbra Theatre) and Jitney (Penumbra Theatre). As an international artist, Young has been featured on the following stages: The Guthrie Theatre, 10,000 things, Jazz at Lincoln Center (NY), Cathedral of St. John The Divine (NY), Great American History Theatre, Navy Pier (Chicago), The Fitzgerald Theatre, The Illusion Theatre, RoundHouse Theatre (Maryland), Intermedia Arts MN, Alchemy Theatre, Arizona Theatre Company (Arizona), Herberger Theatre (Arizona), Walker Art Center, Paramount Theatre and Patinoire Saint-Léonard (Switzerland). As a musician, Young has been featured on the album Fear Not with soul powerhouse, PaviElle French, and has toured internationally with Edupoetic Enterbrainment, featuring on 3 albums. His pioneering work with such groups as Sirius B (Black male performance artist collective), African Perfection (drill team), In Da Belly (social change theater), Royal guard (drum and bugle corps) along with his work as a teaching artist at Walker West Music Academy, Hennepin County Home School, St. Paul Public School dist. #625, Lincoln High (Thief River Falls), Vocal Essence, Arts Us MN, Stepping Stone Theatre, Mill City Players and many more throughout the country have made Young a recognizable entity within the national artist community.
