Ann Benjamin

Guest Musician

Ann Benjamin currently performs as second harp with the Minnesota Orchestra and is a faculty member at Macalester College in St. Paul, Minnesota. She has performed as principal, second harp or sub in Atlanta, Jacksonville, Shreveport, Spoleto and New World Symphonies. She has been a faculty member at Luther College in Decorah, Iowa and was Associate Professor of Harp at Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Ms. Benjamin spent several summers performing and teaching at the Interlochen Arts Camp in Interlochen, Michigan and the Eastern Music Festival in Greensboro, North Carolina. An LSU Summer Research Grant and an LSU Council on Research Grant were awarded to Ms. Benjamin for commissioning and performing new works for the harp at the Third (Vienna), Fifth (Copenhagen) and Sixth (Seattle) World Harp Congresses, and for the production of her CD, Sky Loom: Music for Flute and Harp, with flutist Dr. Katherine Kemler. Ms. Benjamin is a board member of the World Harp Congress. She is currently fascinated with rediscovering the ancient history of the harp after a recent trip to Greece. Ms. Benjamin holds degrees from Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana and St. Olaf College in Northfield, MN. Her teachers include Susann McDonald, Nancy Allen, Alice Chalifoux and Joan Mainzer.
