Flutist Catherine Ramirez is noted for her sensitive musicianship and captivating performances. Winner of three international competition prizes in Europe and First Prize in the New York Flute Club Young Artist Competition, she has been featured as a soloist and chamber musician at such notable venues as the Teatro del Giglio in Italy, Beijing Concert Hall in China, The Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., the Chicago Cultural Center’s Preston Bradley Hall, Salt Lake City’s Temple Square, and Carnegie’s Weill Recital Hall in New York. A versatile musician praised as “an astonishing artist,” whose “conviction and communication are incredibly powerful,” she has also won several grants, including a Minnesota State Arts Board Artists Initiative Grant and a Sallie Shepherd Perkins Prize for Best Achievement from Rice University. Other career highlights include performances with the Minnesota and St. Paul Chamber Orchestras, serving as a judge in the Fischoff Chamber Music Competition, and teaching and performing on tour in Colombia, South America. Recent activities include a residency with the Montana Flute Association, performances at the National Flute Association Convention, the Mid-Atlantic Flute Convention and the Kentucky Flute Festival, and solo and chamber recitals at colleges and community venues in the upper Midwest. Her most recent solo album, recorded at MPR, was released by Albany Records in December 2017 under the title "Shelter From The Storm." She is currently Artist-in-Residence at St. Olaf College in Minnesota.
