Demetra Alikakos

Demetra Alikakos is a bassoonist from the southwest suburbs of Chicago and began studying the bassoon at the age of 12. Demetra recently graduated with her masters degree from Rice University and previously received her bachelor's degree from DePaul University. In the past, Demetra has performed with a variety of orchestras including the Houston Symphony, Houston Grand Opera Orchestra, The Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra and The Logos Symphony Orchestra. She has participated in various summer orchestras including the National Repertory Orchestra, The Chautauqua Festival and the Sewanee Festival. Demetra participated in the Meg Quigley Bassoon Competition in 2023 in Tucson Arizona where she was a finalist and was awarded an honorable mention. Her primary teachers have been Benjamin Kamins, William Buchman, Miles Maner, Keith Buncke and Hanna Sterba.
