Dina Kuznetsova

Russian-American soprano Dina Kuznetsova has attracted universal attention for her outstanding musicianship and compelling stage presence and has performed in many of the world’s greatest opera houses. From the Royal Opera House Covent Garden (Gianni Schicci with Sir Antonio Pappano), Berlin’s Staatsoper unter den Linden (Donna Anna with Daniel Barenboim), Wiener Staatsoper (Juliette with Claude Schnitzler) and Munich’s Bayerische Staatsoper (Rodelinda with Ivor Bolton) to the San Francisco Opera (Pamina with Donald Runnicles), Lyric Opera of Chicago (Gilda with Jesús López Cobos) and The Metropolitan Opera (Francesca da Rimini with Marco Armiliato).

After early career successes in roles such as Gilda, Violetta and Juliette, Dina Kuznetsova has developed towards the Slavic and Russian repertoire which has become central to her current schedule. Her passionate portrayal of Tchaikovsky’s Tatyana (Eugene Onegin) has brought her huge success, most notably in her role debut opposite Dmitri Hvorostovsky for Lyric Opera of Chicago (conducted by Sir Andrew Davis), in Opéra national de Lille’s new production by Jean-Yves Ruf (conducted by Pascal Verrot) and with the Russian National Orchestra under Mikhail Pletnev.

Dina Kuznetsova’s last two seasons have included an acclaimed Metropolitan Opera debut as Chloé in Pique Dame followed by her debut as Lisa in the same piece with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra under Vladimir Ashkenazy. As Rusalka, Dina made a celebrated return to the Glyndebourne Festival under Sir Andrew Davis, and reprised the role at both Opéra de Montpellier under the baton of Lawrence Foster and at Teatro San Carlo, Naples conducted by John Fiore.

Following on from her recent role debut as Desdemona (Otello) with the Gulbenkian Orchestra and Lawrence Foster, the current season brings the addition of another major Italian role to Dina’s repertoire: Cio–Cio San in Anthony Minghella’s production of Madama Butterfly at English National Opera under Gianluca Marciano. The season continues with the title role of Katya Kabanová at both the Hamburgische Staatsoper and Teatro Municipal de Santiago de Chile as well as a return to Opéra de Montpellier as Tatyana under Ari Rasilainen.

In concert, Dina will sing Britten’s War Requiem for the first time with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra under Vladimir Ashkenazy and with the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra under Arvo Volmer, as well as joining the St Paul Chamber Orchestra for Shostakovich’s Symphony No. 14 under Hans Graf. A keen recitalist and chamber musician, Dina Kuznetsova appears regularly at both the New York Festival of Song and the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center and features as part of the Music@Menlo series of CDs performing songs by Dvořák and Shostakovich.

A native of Moscow, Dina Kuznetsova is a graduate of the Ryan Opera Center at Lyric Opera of Chicago.
