Edo de Waart is Music Director of the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra, Chief Conductor of the Royal Flemish Philharmonic, Conductor Laureate of the Radio Filharmonisch Orkest Holland, and an Artistic Partner with The Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra. In addition to his present positions, de Waart has held posts with De Nederlandse Opera, the Sydney Symphony, the San Francisco Symphony, and the Minnesota and Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestras, and most recently, Chief Conductor and Artistic Director of the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra for eight years. He has a large and varied operatic repertoire, having conducted in many of the great houses of the world, including Bayreuth, Bastille, and Covent Garden, the Salzburg Festival, Santa Fe Opera, and the Metropolitan Opera New York, where he last conducted Der Rosenkavalier; he looks forward to his return next season. Despite a hugely demanding global schedule from his three orchestras, Edo de Waart is a regular visitor to the NHK Symphony Orchestra, Tokyo and the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. His recent guest conducting engagements include orchestras such as the San Francisco Symphony, Stockholm Philharmonic, and Sydney Symphony, and he is looking forward to a return to the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra next summer.
