Jason Wells

Guest Musician for the 2024.25 season

Jason Wells is joining The Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra for the 2024-2025 season. Before his engagement with the SPCO, Jason performed with various ensembles across the Midwest, including the Des Moines Symphony and the Sioux City Symphony, among others.

Beyond the classical stage, Jason is a sought-after bassist in genres ranging from jazz and gospel to tango and folk. His diverse performance career has taken him across the United States and, more recently, around the globe. In 2023, Jason toured Qatar, Türkiye, and Bulgaria with the folk band Barbaro as part of the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs program, American Music Abroad.

A passionate educator, Jason provides private bass instruction and conducts group workshops and coaching sessions at numerous middle and high schools throughout the Twin Cities metro area. He is also a champion of contemporary classical music and is deeply involved in the new music scene in the Twin Cities. Jason has premiered several new works for the bass and plays an integral role in the local music community. He serves as the Co-Executive Director of the 10th Wave Chamber Music Collective and sits on the board of Renegade Ensemble.

Jason is an alum of Interlochen Arts Academy and received his bachelor’s degree from DePaul University, where he studied under Robert Kassinger of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra.
