Johanna Cox, Associate Professor of Oboe at Louisiana State University, joined the faculty in Fall 2011. She performed her Carnegie Hall solo debut in October of 2005, of which the New York Concert Review stated, “...a solid recital of high standard, excellent musicianship, and a sense of taste and proportion.” A graduate of Northwestern University and the Eastman School of Music, Ms. Cox was chosen for Eastman’s Freiburg Exchange Program, bringing her to Germany to study with soloist Heinz Holliger at the Freiburg Musikhochschule. Johanna has been featured as soloist on the “Live from Hochstein” broadcast on WXXI FM radio in her hometown of Rochester, NY, where she won her first concerto competition at age 17, and performed with the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra. In 1997, Johanna and twin sister, Lenora, performed the Bach Double Concerto with the National Repertory Orchestra. She can be heard on the CD Gale Force (Albany Records), with the woodwind quintet Prairie Winds and American Breeze (Albany Records) with the Musical Arts Quintet.
“Johanna will have a positive impact on the world of music, on those who study with her, as well as those who hear her perform.” – Eastman School of Music
