Since making her professional debut at age 13 performing Beethoven’s Third Piano Concerto, pianist Kyung Kim has performed widely to critical acclaim in concerto, recital and chamber music performances throughout Asia, North America, and Europe. Praised for her “hypnotic” and “captivating” performances, recent concerto appearances have included the Winnipeg, Madison, Milwaukee, Lawrence University, and University of Minnesota Symphony Orchestras; chamber music performances for the Niagara (Canada), Heifetz, Bartok, and Salzburg Mozarteum summer music festivals, the Chamber Music Society of Minnesota, and the Colonial Chamber Series; and repeated solo recital invitations for Wisconsin Public Radio and Television, Chicago’s Live from WFMT, Brandon University’s pro series, and the University of Winnipeg Virtuosi Series. An avid chamber musician, Dr. Kim has collaborated internationally with such prominent musicians such as Paul Edmund Davies, Leone Buyse, James Campbell, and David Perry, and has been heard in radio broadcasts for NPR, Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, and the Korean Broadcasting System. A popular clinician and adjudicator, she has presented master classes throughout the U.S., Canada, South Korea, and China, also serving as chamber music coach at the Green Lake Summer Music Festival, resident pianist and artistic advisor to the Brandon Chamber Players, and Artistic Director of Mayfest in Manitoba, Canada. Born into a musical family, Dr. Kim is a graduate of Seoul National University, and holds the Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. A popular clinician and adjudicator, she is regularly invited to present masterclasses throughout the U.S., Canada, China, and South Korea. Her students have garnered top competitive awards in the U.S. and Canada, including the University of Minnesota Concerto Competition, Madison Symphony (Final Forte), Lacrosse, Menominee Falls, and Fox Valley Concerto Competitions, and the Piano Arts, American Protégé and the National Canadian Music Competition (CMC).
Chair of the Keyboard Division and Associate Professor of Piano at the University of Minnesota (Twin Cities) School of Music, Dr. Kim has previously served on the piano faculties at Brandon University (MB), Lawrence University (WI), Beloit College (WI), and Ripon College (WI). She is Founder/Director of the Minnesota International Piano Camp which is held annually at the University of Minnesota (z.umn.edu/pianocamp).
