Michael Beattie has received international attention as a conductor and keyboardist specializing in the music of the Baroque period. Conducting credits include Dido and Aeneas (Glimmerglass Opera), Rinaldo (Pittsburgh Opera), Handel’s Teseo (Chicago Opera Theater), and for Boston’s Emmanuel Music Ariodante, the St. John Passion, the complete Bach Motets, as well as more than one hundred Bach Cantatas. In January, 2015 he returns to Pittsburgh Opera to conduct Handel's Rodelinda. He toured internationally with director Peter Sellars: as Assistant Conductor for the Mozart/Da Ponte cycle; organist for Bach cantatas with Lorraine Hunt Lieberson; and pianist for Weill, Kleine Mahagonny and Bach, Dialogue between Fear and Hope after Death. Recent keyboard highlights include concerts with the Boston Symphony Orchestra, Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center, Les Violons du Roy, National Symphony of Mexico, Pegasus Early Music, the Handel & Haydn Society, and Emmanuel Music. He has recorded for KOCH International and Nonesuch records.
