Michael Davis

Guest Musician

A native of Pittsburgh, Michael Davis received his BFA from Carnegie Mellon University. While a student there he received a three-year contrabassoon fellowship to the Aspen Music Festival. After briefly pursuing a master's degree at Southern Methodist University, he began his professional career with the Kansas City Symphony, spending ten seasons as Associate Principal Bassoon and Contrabassoon. He was then invited to serve as Acting Second Bassoon with the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra, playing four seasons in this capacity.

Michael is currently an Associate Musician at the Met, covering all positions of the section, including numerous appearances as principal. In New York City he has also been engaged by the New York Philharmonic, New York City Ballet, and Orchestra of St. Luke’s. He spends his summers in Chicago, as contrabassoonist of the Grant Park Music Festival.
