René Pagen studied at the conservatory Maastricht with Hubert Crüts and Erich Penzel. During this period he was member of the Schleswig Holstein Music Festival and the European Community Youth Orchestra where he worked with the famous conductors Leonard Bernstein, Sergiu Celibidache, Sir George Solti, Bernard Haitink and Claudio Abbado. René got appointed as principal horn with the Bochumer Symphoniker in 1992. From 1994 he was principal horn at he Radio Symfonie Orchestra in Hilversum (Holland). Since 2004 René is playing principal horn at the Residentie Orchestra in The Hague with chief conductor Neeme Järvi. Solo concerts with the Residentie Orchestra, Orkest van het oosten, Radio Symfonie Orchestra, Flexible Brass with Eri Klas, Steward Robertson and Jaap van Zweden. René Pagen played guest principal horn with the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra and the Mahler Chamber Orchestra under Mariss Jansons, Herbert Blomstedt and Daniel Harding.
