In the fall of this year, Richard Ranti completed a 34 year career as Associate Principal Bassoon of the Boston Symphony Orchestra and Principal Bassoon in the Boston Pops. Prior to his post in Boston, Mr. Ranti played for 6 years in the Philadelphia Orchestra as Second Bassoon and Acting Associate Principal. He was on the faculties of New England Conservatory, Boston University, and the Tanglewood Music Center (where he taught and was inspired by a young Andrew Brady), and has taught many private lessons and master classes. He has performed chamber and solo performances in North America, Europe and Japan. Raised in a musical family, his formal music education included Interlochen Arts Academy, the Curtis Institute, and several music festivals including Marlboro, Tanglewood, and Spoleto. He has been a guest bassoonist with several orchestras including Toronto Symphony, Los Angeles Philharmonic, and the National Arts Centre Orchestra. While continuing his musical activities, his future focus will be on community activism, volunteering, family, and education.
