Sanford Moore

SANFORD MOORE is a composer, pianist, arranger and producer. He is perhaps most noted as the founder, director and arranger for the award-winning vocal jazz ensemble Moore by Four. He has traveled extensively with his ensemble doing concerts and workshops in the US, Europe and Japan, and has shared the stage with such notable jazz artists as Bobby McFerrin, Harry Connick, Jr., the late Joe Williams, Sarah Vaughn, Dizzy Gillespie and Carmen McRae.

In addition to his work with Moore by Four, Moore is sought after as a musical director, arranger and composer. He is currently Musical Director for Penumbra Theatre, musical directing Girl Shakes Loose, By the Way, Meet Vera Stark, Ballad of Emmet Till, The Amen Corner, Black Pearl Sings, Black Nativity, Ain’t Misbehavin’, Get Ready and Dinah Was. Other Musical Directing credits include, Smokey Joe’s Café at the Ordway Music Theater; The Wiz, Last Stop on Market Street, Three Little Birds at Children’s Theatre; Disgraced (composer), Parchman Hour, To Kill a Mockingbird, Choir Boy, Crowns at the Guthrie Theater; Thunder Knocking at the Door at Ten Thousand Things; Two Queens, One Castle, Black Belts I, II & III, at Mixed Blood Theatre; Nina Simone: Four Women at Park Square Theater and Pillsbury House; co-creator of the musical revue Always and Forever at Illusion Theater; and co-creator of When a Man Loves a Diva at The Lab Theater. Other projects include: composer for Warriors of Light at Threads Dance Company and Minister of Music for Kingdom Life Church in North Minneapolis.
