Sycil Mathai

Guest Musician for the 2014-15 Season

Sycil Mathai is a New York City-based trumpeter at home in various directions of contemporary, classical, and experimental music. The SPCO is an orchestra that he was particularly fond of listening to on the radio as a teenager, and he is thrilled to be part of the SPCO’s 2014-2015 season. His career work spans ensembles like the Knights Chamber Orchestra, Orchestra of St.Lukes, Argento New Music, Broadway shows South Pacific and Mary Poppins, American Composers Orchestra, American Symphony Orchestra, Extension Ensemble, Ne(x)tworks, artists Carter Burwell, Butch Morris, the dance companies of Merce Cunningham, Mark Morris Dance Group, Nai-Ni Chen, and movie directors Andy Kaufman, and The Coen Brothers. He has recorded for RCA, PBS, CBS, EA Sports, Summit Brass, Albany Records, New World, Sirius Satellite Radio, and countless others.. He’s a graduate of Juilliard as a student of Mark Gould, and of Texas Christian University as a student of Steve Weger. Sycil resides in Brooklyn, NY with his wife.
