University of Minnesota Women's Chorus

THE UNIVERSITY OF MINNESOTA’S WOMEN’S CHORUS is an auditioned ensemble of major and non-major students, which presents programs of classical, folk, popular, contemporary, and global repertoire for female voices. Under the direction of Kathy Saltzman Romey and graduate student conductors, the choir regularly performs at Ted Mann Concert Hall and within the greater community, and has participated in collaborative performances at the ACDA Men’s and Women’s Chorus Festival, MMEA Midwinter Clinic, and with the Minnesota Orchestra, University Symphony, and University Opera Theater. In 2012, the Women’s Chorus participated in the Opera Theater’s staged production of Parables, a dramatic cantata responding to racial and religious intolerance by composer Robert Aldridge and librettist Herschel Garfein. The performances were filmed by Twin Cities Public Television for broadcast in 2012 and released as a DVD on the Naxos label in July 2014. The Women’s Chorus is also a founding member of WomanVoice, an annual concert program presented by collegiate women’s choruses. Now in its 25th year, WomanVoice celebrates and uplifts the work of women artists, writers, and composers. As passionate performers and advocates of new music, the University Women’s Chorus is proud to participate in their first collaboration with the St. Paul Chamber Orchestra.
