About This Program
Approximate length 2:00
Brahms revisited his first Piano Trio, written and published in his early 20s, more than 30 years later and brought all of the wisdom and insight of those years to the 1889 revision that the SPCO will perform. The tenderness and romantic yearning of the opening melody was a constant in both versions, and has made this trio one of the most beloved in all of the chamber music repertoire. Martinů’s lively Trio for Flute, Cello and Piano, and Strauss’s beautifully lyrical Sonata in E-flat for Violin and Piano round out the program.
