About This Program

Approximate length 1:00

Dvořák’s Bass Quintet (known as such because of the unusual addition of the double bass to the standard string quartet) was written at a very productive and happy time for the young composer, and earned him top prize in the Prague based Artistic Circle Competition. Saint-Saëns also explores an unusual instrumentation in his Septet, which adds prominent trumpet and virtuosic piano parts. The program opens with a flute and piano work by Valerie Coleman inspired by the poetry of Maya Angelou.

PARKING: In addition to street parking and the church's lot, parking can be found at the 800 Workforce Development lot (yellow and blue building directly across the street) and the SCC-Merwin Liquors front and back lots.
