About This Program

Approximate length 2:00

This program takes a look at two works written in tribute of friends that have passed. Modest Mussorgsky’s most well-known work, Pictures at an Exhibition, was written for artist and architect Viktor Hartmann, heard here in an arrangement for dectet. The 10 movements are based on drawings and watercolors by Hartmann during his travels abroad. Subtitled “In Memory of a Great Artist,” Tchaikovsky’s Piano Trio in A Minor was written in tribute of the pianist, conductor and composer Nikolai Rubinstein.
